How it works
This calculator multiplies your car's fuel consumption rate by the distance you plan to travel, then multiplies the litres needed by today's pump price. The formula is: litres needed = (distance ÷ 100) × consumption rate, then cost = litres × price per litre.
Worked example: say you're driving from Lagos to Ibadan, about 130km, in a car that uses 8 litres per 100km, with fuel at ₦890/litre. You'd need (130 ÷ 100) × 8 = 10.4 litres, costing 10.4 × ₦890 = ₦9,256 one way — or ₦18,512 for the round trip. If you make that drive four times a month, that's roughly ₦74,048 in fuel alone.
Consumption rate depends on your car, terrain and driving style — most Nigerian sedans use somewhere between 7 and 11 litres per 100km in mixed city and highway driving. If you don't know yours, check your fuel gauge before and after a known-distance trip to work it out.

How do I find my car's fuel consumption rate?
Fill your tank completely, note your odometer reading, drive normally until you need to refuel, then fill up again and note how many litres it took. Divide litres used by (distance driven ÷ 100) to get litres per 100km.
What's the difference between L/100km and km/L?
L/100km tells you litres consumed over 100km — lower is better. km/L tells you how far one litre takes you — higher is better. They're inverses of each other: km/L = 100 ÷ (L/100km).
Does this account for traffic and AC use?
Not directly — it uses your average consumption rate, which should already reflect your normal driving conditions if you calculated it from a real trip. Heavy Lagos traffic or constant AC use will push real consumption higher than highway figures.
Why is my actual fuel cost different from the estimate?
Pump prices vary by station and change often, and your actual consumption can shift with load, tyre pressure, and route. Treat this as a planning estimate, not an exact figure.
